About this opportunity

This federal grant opportunity from the Department of Justice's Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) seeks to provide training and technical assistance to Second Chance Act Youth Reentry grantees and practitioners. The goal is to improve community supervision practices, enhance outcomes for youth and communities, reduce recidivism, improve public safety, and ensure jurisdictions can adequately identify and effectively serve the needs of these youth. A multidisciplinary team of experts will work with selected jurisdictions to improve their community supervision and reentry programs, policies, and practices. The application deadline is July 23, 2024.

The Second Chance Act Reentry Initiative typically provides awards ranging from $500,000 to $1.5 million over 2-4 year periods to state and local government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and universities. The program supports direct service delivery as well as research, training, and technical assistance to develop evidence-based reentry practices, with a focus on providing education, employment assistance, substance abuse treatment, mental health services, housing support, and other reentry services both pre- and post-release. The place of performance spans correctional facilities, community-based organizations, and service areas across the United States where formerly incarcerated individuals are returning.
