About this opportunity
The Department of Education's Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services is seeking grant applications for the Rehabilitation Long-Term Training (RLTT) Program, specifically targeting academic training to address personnel shortages in vocational rehabilitation services. The program aims to train rehabilitation professionals to support individuals with various disabilities, including physical disabilities, mental health disorders, intellectual and developmental disabilities, blindness, and deaf or hard of hearing conditions. Grantees must allocate at least 65% of project funds as scholarships to students, creating a comprehensive training pipeline for rehabilitation service professionals. Applicants must demonstrate the ability to develop skilled professionals who can address specialized rehabilitation needs across different disability conditions. The grant opportunity is focused on seven specific topic areas within rehabilitation services, with applications due by July 17, 2025. Eligible applicants include states, public and private nonprofit agencies, Indian Tribes, and higher education institutions.
The total program funding is approximately $15 million, with individual awards ranging from $150,000 to $200,000 per budget period. The project period can extend up to 60 months, allowing for sustained academic training and professional development. Grantees are required to provide a 10% cost-sharing match and will be evaluated on their ability to effectively train rehabilitation professionals in their chosen specialty area. The Department of Education anticipates awarding between 2-23 grants across the various topic areas, with a focus on creating a robust and diverse training ecosystem for rehabilitation service professionals. Grant recipients will be expected to implement comprehensive training programs that directly address the identified personnel shortages in vocational rehabilitation services.
