About this opportunity

The Department of Education's Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS) is seeking grant applications for the Rehabilitation Long-Term Training (RLTT) program, specifically focusing on Rehabilitation Technology (ALN 84.129E). The program aims to provide financial assistance for academic training to address personnel shortages in vocational rehabilitation, with a primary objective of training professionals to support individuals with disabilities through advanced technology applications. Grantees must award at least 65% of project funds as scholarships to students (RSA scholars), who will be trained to work with individuals with various disabilities, including physical, mental health, intellectual, developmental, blind, and deaf or hard of hearing populations. Eligible applicants include states, public or private nonprofit agencies, Indian Tribes, and higher education institutions. The application deadline is July 17, 2025, with applicants expected to develop innovative training approaches that address evolving technology labor markets and assistive technology needs.

The grant opportunity offers up to $175,000 per award, with an estimated 5 awards available for the fiscal year 2025. The project period can extend up to 60 months (5 years), providing substantial time for comprehensive training program development. Funding will support academic training projects that focus on developing specialized expertise in rehabilitation technology, with a goal of increasing the number of qualified professionals capable of delivering advanced technological support to individuals with disabilities. Successful applicants will be expected to create training programs that emphasize competitive integrated employment strategies and cutting-edge assistive technology applications. The performance period is anticipated to run from October 1, 2025, to September 30, 2030, allowing for extensive program implementation and evaluation.
