About this opportunity
The Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) intends to publish a funding opportunity announcement soliciting cooperative agreement applications for HIV clinical trials research focused on infants, children, adolescents and young adults, and maternal populations; this is a notice of intent and applications are not being solicited at this time.
Eligible applicants include public or private higher education institutions, state and county governments, tribal governments (federally recognized and non-federally recognized tribal organizations), independent school districts, public or Indian housing authorities, small businesses, for-profit organizations, and 501(c)(3) nonprofits. The cooperative agreement will utilize the UM2 activity code and fall under CFDA 93.865, Child Health and Human Development Extramural Research.
The program will establish an HIV clinical trials network focused exclusively on pediatric and maternal populations to conduct rigorously designed, collaborative clinical trials in partnership with site consortia addressing high-priority research areas in HIV and related comorbidities and coinfections. Investigators with expertise in chronic and infectious diseases, pediatrics, adolescent medicine, laboratory innovation, and cost-effectiveness are encouraged to consider applying. The notice is provided to allow sufficient time for potential applicants to develop meaningful collaborations and responsive projects.
Awards under the parent program (CFDA 93.865) have historically ranged from $39 thousand to $794 million across research project grants, training awards, and other mechanisms. Recent annual award volume has averaged 616 to 755 awards per year. The application will receive dual scientific review by non-NIH scientists and evaluation based on significance of proposed research, approach, innovation, investigators, and environment. Specific deadlines for this NOFO have not yet been announced.
