About this opportunity

The Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Electricity (OE) intends to issue a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) titled "Critical Facility Energy Resilience (CiFER)." The FOA will seek applications for financial assistance awards to address FY2024 Congressional Direction, which directs OE to pursue a competitive pilot demonstration grant program for energy storage projects that are wholly U.S.-made, sourced, and supplied. The projects are expected to deploy innovative energy storage technologies at host sites with identified resiliency needs, validate technology performance and commercial readiness, and provide data to the DOE's Rapid Operational Validation Initiative (ROVI). Applicants will be required to submit a Concept Paper prior to a Full Application, and must complete necessary registrations with Grants.gov, SAM, and FedConnect.net.

The anticipated FOA will make up to $15 million available for cost-shared research, development, and demonstration (RD&D) projects, with up to $5 million per award. The FOA is expected to be released in the fall of 2024 and will be funded under the DOE's Electricity Research, Development and Analysis program (CFDA 81.122).
