Non-domestic entities and foreign organizations are not eligible; however, foreign components of U.S. organizations are permitted.
The program targets postdoctoral researchers holding research or clinical doctorate degrees, providing independent NCI research support to help awardees launch competitive, independent research careers during their transition from mentored positions to faculty status.
All applications undergo scientific merit review by peer panels and the National Cancer Advisory Board, with evaluation based on scientific and technical merit, program relevance, program balance, competency of the investigator, adequacy of facilities and resources, budget necessity, and relevance to program objectives. Review timelines span approximately ten months.
The opportunity is assigned to the Cancer Research Manpower program (CFDA 93.398), which has awarded $5.28 billion across 12,371 grants since 1975.
