About this opportunity

The Institute of Museum and Library Services is soliciting applications for Museum Grants for American Latino History and Culture, with an application deadline of November 13, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. U.S. Eastern Time. IMLS expects to award approximately $6 million across 16 grants, ranging from $5,000 to $500,000 per award. Cost share is voluntary and not considered in merit review.

Eligible applicants include American Latino museums with professional staff and permanent educational missions, nonprofit agencies operating such museums, museum service organizations supporting Latino institutions, and institutions of higher education (including Hispanic-Serving Institutions) partnering with eligible museums. Applicants must be located in the 50 U.S. states, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa, Northern Mariana Islands, Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, or Palau.

The program funds two primary objectives: building museum capacity through exhibitions, public programs, collections care, and strategic planning; and developing professional workforces through internships, fellowships, mentoring, and staff training. Projects must run one to three years, beginning August 1, 2027, and concluding by July 31, 2030. Award notifications are anticipated in July 2027.

Allowable costs include personnel, travel, materials, software, equipment, adaptive technologies, training, internships, and indirect costs up to negotiated rates or 15 percent of Modified Total Direct Costs. Applicants must submit through Grants.gov Workspace using Funding Opportunity Number ALHC-FY27 or Assistance Listing Number 45.033. Required submissions include SF-424S form, IMLS Museum Program Information Form, Organizational Profile, 7-page maximum Narrative, Schedule of Completion, IMLS Budget Form, Budget Justification, staff resumes, and Performance Measurement Plan. Applications undergo eligibility and completeness review followed by peer evaluation based on Project Justification, Project Work Plan, and Project Results criteria.
