About this opportunity
The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) is soliciting grant applications for the Museum Grants for American Latino History and Culture (ALHC) program, which supports projects that build organizational capacity within American Latino history and culture museums while advancing professional workforce development in these institutions. Eligible applicants include units of state, local, or tribal government; private nonprofit organizations with tax-exempt status; and institutions of higher education, provided the applying organization is a museum with primary focus on American Latino life, art, history, or culture, a museum service organization, or a higher education institution. Projects may encompass exhibitions, educational programs, digital learning resources, technology enhancements, professional development, community outreach, audience development, and collections management. Applications will be evaluated based on project justification, quality of work plan, anticipated results, and alignment with program goals of building museum capacity and supporting professional workforce growth. The application deadline is March 13, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time, with submissions required through Grants.gov.
The total funding pool for this opportunity is $6,000,000, with approximately 16 anticipated awards ranging from $5,000 to $500,000 per grant (averaging $375,000). Projects must have a performance period of one to three years beginning September 1, 2026, with award notifications anticipated in August 2026. Place of performance is limited to the United States or U.S. territories, with particular emphasis on serving rural and remote communities. Cost share is permitted but not required and will not be considered in the review process.
