About this opportunity

The Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) forecasts a Notice of Funding Opportunity to solicit cooperative agreement applications to establish a Maternal Medications and Human Milk Research Center (M2HMRC) as part of the NICHD's Maternal and Pediatric Precision in Therapeutics (MPRINT) Hub; applications are not being solicited at this time, and no application deadline is specified.

The M2HMRC will advance research on how maternal medications affect human milk composition and neonatal/infant health outcomes by identifying critical knowledge gaps in medication use during pregnancy and lactation, integrating real-world evidence with chemical and bioanalytic data, developing innovative tools to improve medication safety and efficacy, and disseminating knowledge around medication use during lactation to a broad audience. The Center will collaborate with MPRINT's Knowledge and Research Coordinating Center (KRCC) to conduct clinical, translational, and data science research.

Eligible applicants include universities, medical schools, hospitals, State and local health departments, nonprofit and for-profit research institutions, small businesses, city/township governments, county governments, State governments, special district governments, public or Indian housing authorities, independent school districts, tribal organizations (federally and non-federally recognized), 501(c)(3) and non-501(c)(3) nonprofits, faith-based or community-based organizations, U.S. territories or possessions, regional organizations, and eligible Federal agencies. This cooperative agreement mechanism involves large-scale research activities with complex structures. The opportunity is assigned to CFDA 93.865 (Child Health and Human Development Extramural Research). The authorizing statutes include Public Health Service Act Sections 301, 448, and 487 (42 U.S.C. 241, 285g, 288) and the Small Business Research and Development Enhancement Act of 1992 (Public Laws 102-564, 118-47).
