About this opportunity
The Department of the Army Medical Command, through the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP), seeks patient-centered research proposals that advance evidence-based approaches to improve health outcomes and enhance the patient experience for lung cancer survivors and patients. Applicants must propose translational or clinical research, including pilot clinical trials, that addresses at least one of three areas of emphasis: identifying long-term and cumulative effects of lung cancer treatment on quality of life, understanding how comorbidities impact survivorship care, or reducing health disparities among high-risk populations. A distinctive requirement is the mandatory inclusion of a lung cancer patient/survivor or caregiver advocate as an integral research team member. The proposal will be evaluated through a two-tier review process assessing technical merit, military relevance, and alignment with program objectives. The pre-application deadline is August 18, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time, with full applications due September 2, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. ET; peer review is scheduled for October 2026, with programmatic review in January 2027.
Approximately $1.95 million in total funding will support approximately two awards with a maximum cost cap of $975,000 per award and a three-year performance period. Awards will be obligated no later than September 30, 2027, using FY26 funds that expire for use on September 30, 2032. Eligible applicants include both extramural and intramural U.S. Department of War organizations, as well as foreign and domestic entities, for-profit and nonprofit organizations, with principal investigators able to work at any career level. Research will be conducted at eligible U.S. and international organizations, with direct costs permitted for travel supporting multi-institutional collaborations and one investigator's attendance at a scientific/technical meeting per year.
