About this opportunity

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) is soliciting applications under the Local Food Promotion Program (LFPP) for Fiscal Year 2024. LFPP grants support the development, coordination, and expansion of local and regional food business enterprises that engage in indirect producer-to-consumer marketing to increase access to and availability of locally and regionally produced agricultural products. Eligible activities include supporting processing, aggregation, distribution, and storage of local foods; encouraging value-added products; providing business development and marketing assistance; facilitating regional food chain coordination; and covering food safety certification and improvement costs. Applications must be submitted through Grants.gov by the deadline of May 14, 2024, and will be evaluated on criteria such as technical merit, achievability, expertise and partnerships, project management, and fiscal plan.

Approximately $10.5 million is available for LFPP grants, which are awarded in four project types: Planning ($25,000 - $100,000 for 24 months), Implementation ($100,000 - $500,000 for 36 months), Turnkey Marketing and Promotion ($50,000 - $100,000 for 24 months), and Turnkey Recruitment and Training ($50,000 - $100,000 for 24 months). Successful applicants will be notified by September 30, 2024 and projects are expected to start between October 1, 2024 and January 31, 2025.
