About this opportunity
The National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI), part of the National Institutes of Health, is seeking applications for a Limited Competition grant to extend follow-up research on the Electronic Medical Records and Genomics (eMERGE) Genomic Risk Assessment and Management Network. This opportunity is specifically targeted at organizations currently funded under previous eMERGE initiatives (RFA-HG-19-013 and RFA-HG-19-014). The primary objectives include extending participant follow-up from one to four years, assessing long-term adherence to genomically informed risk assessment (GIRA) recommendations, and identifying factors that correlate with preventative recommendation adherence. Evaluation will be conducted through NIH's standard peer-review processes, with only meritorious applications considered for funding. The application deadline is January 30, 2026, with the grant opportunity focused on collecting outcome data for approximately 25,000 patients who previously received genomic risk assessments.
The funding opportunity will provide up to $5,800,000 annually from fiscal years 2026 to 2029, with individual award budgets limited to $330,000 in direct costs per year. Ten awards are anticipated, with the eMERGE Network extending through April 2030. The research will be conducted as a cooperative agreement, meaning there will be substantial programmatic involvement from NIH. The project will focus on analyzing how genomic risk assessments impact patient management, healthcare utilization, and clinical decision-making across various demographic groups. Performance of the research will be primarily at the clinical sites of the currently funded eMERGE Network organizations.
Synopsis
This Limited Competition Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) invites recipient organizations funded under the Electronic Medical Records and Genomics (eMERGE): Genomic Risk Assessment and Management Network Clinical Sites (RFA-HG-19-013 and RFA-HG-19-014) to participate in the Outcomes of Electronic Medical Records and Genomics (eMERGE) Genomic Risk Assessment and Management Network. Please see Section III. Eligibility for additional information. In accordance with NIH standard peer-review processes, the applications will be peer-reviewed, and only meritorious applications will be considered. The eMERGE Network will extend through April 2030 follow-up and collection of outcome data on the roughly 25,000 patients receiving genomically informed risk assessment (GIRA) and management recommendations. This is a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for a Limited Competition that will invite application(s) from eligible organization(s) to apply.
