About this opportunity
The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) seeks applicants to establish and operate Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Other Related Disabilities (LEND) programs that train health and related professionals to screen, diagnose, and provide services for children and youth with autism and developmental disabilities across the lifespan. Eligible applicants include public and private higher education institutions, nonprofit organizations, state and local governments, and tribal organizations. LEND programs must recruit and train qualified long-term trainees (300+ hours) across multiple disciplines, with minimum trainee requirements ranging from 9 to 29 depending on funding tier, and must ensure each cohort includes at least one trainee with a disability and one family member trainee. Core faculty requirements mandate at least two dedicated faculty members with lived experience—one with a disability and one family member with caregiving experience—and the project director must dedicate a minimum of 30% time to the grant with five to seven years of experience serving children with autism and developmental disabilities. Merit review will evaluate applications on need (10 points), response and methodology (35 points), performance reporting and evaluation (15 points), impact (10 points), resources and capabilities (20 points), and support requested (10 points). The application deadline is May 9, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. ET, with expected award notification by July 1, 2026.
Total available funding for FY 2026 is $38,300,000 distributed across approximately 60 grants with annual tiered funding levels ranging from $460,000 (Tier 1) to $734,000 over a five-year project period (July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2031). New applicants may only apply for Tier 1 funding, while competing continuation applicants may maintain their tier, move up one tier, or move to a lower tier. Two optional supplemental awards are available: the LEND Pediatric Audiology Trainee supplement (up to $150,000 annually for up to 12 awards) and the LEND Emerging Issues supplement (one-time $50,000 award). Indirect costs for training awards cannot exceed 8% of modified total direct costs. Programs must operate within U.S. domestic territories and comply with all HHS regulations and HRSA strategic priorities.
Synopsis
The purpose of the LEND program is to improve the quality of care for children and youth with autism/developmental disabilities (DD) by training health and related professionals to meet their needs across the lifespan. LEND programs train health and other professionals to screen, diagnose, and provide services for children and youth with autism/DD.
