About this opportunity
The Department of Education Institute of Education Sciences is soliciting applications for grants supporting the development of statistical and research methodology products for education research under the Statistical and Research Methodology in Education program (ALN 84.305D), with applications due October 1, 2026 and a letter of intent due September 3, 2026.
Eligible applicants include institutions with the ability and capacity to conduct scientific research, including but not limited to non-profit and for-profit organizations and public and private agencies and institutions such as colleges and universities. No cost share is required.
The program funds two topics with distinct award ceilings and performance periods. Core Grants support development of new and improved statistical and research methods for use by education researchers, with a maximum award of $900,000 over three years. Toolkits Grants support compilation of existing research and information into products including toolkits, guidelines, compendia, review papers, curated data resources, and workshops, with a maximum award of $350,000 over two years. Possible project start dates range from July 1, 2027 to September 1, 2027.
Both topics require end-user testing with education researchers and broad dissemination of products through articles in applied education journals, working papers, monographs, workshops, software, and curated data resources. Applications must include a 15-page project narrative addressing Significance, Research Plan, Personnel, and Resources, plus mandatory appendices including an Engagement and Dissemination Plan and alignment with the Standards for Excellence in Education Research (SEER) Standards. Pre-award compliance requires demonstrating access to data and education settings, research security training certifications, and persistent identifiers for key personnel. Post-award requirements include submission of peer-reviewed publications to ERIC and data sharing within five years of project completion.
Synopsis
The goal of the Statistical and Research Methodology in Education (Stats/Methods) grant program (84.305D) is to provide a wide range of methodological and statistical tools that will better enable applied education scientists to conduct rigorous education research.
Under this program, NCER will consider only applications that address one of the following topics: (1) Core Grants or (2) Toolkits, Guidelines, Compendia, Review Papers, and Curated Data Resources (Toolkits). The Core Grants topic supports the development of new and improved statistical and research methods for use by education researchers. These methods are to be user tested by education researchers to ensure their usability, revised as needed, then broadly disseminated through different types of products such as articles in applied education journals, detailed working papers and monographs, workshops, software, and curated data resources. The Toolkits Grants topic supports compiling existing research and information for a given method into products, such as toolkits, guidelines, compendia, review papers, curated data resources, workshops that help education researchers understand and apply the method. These products are to be user tested by education researchers to ensure their usability, revised as needed, and then broadly disseminated.
Assistance Listing Number (ALN) 84.305D.
Eligibility
