About this opportunity
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Information Innovation Office (I2O) closed the I2O Office-Wide Broad Agency Announcement (BAA HR001126S0001) effective June 24, 2026, with a final submission window for encouraged proposers ending July 23, 2026 at 2:00 PM ET. Proposers not explicitly encouraged by the Government in writing may no longer submit; DARPA has published a replacement solicitation (HR001126S0011) for the Information Processing Techniques Office (IPTO) Office-Wide BAA on SAM.gov.
The closed BAA sought revolutionary research ideas addressing topics not covered by ongoing I2O programs or other published solicitations, supporting basic, applied, and advanced research with potential military or dual-use application. Eligible applicants for grants were limited to public and private educational institutions and nonprofit organizations. Cooperative agreements and procurement contracts extended eligibility to commercial firms as well. No cost share or matching requirement applied.
Award values historically ranged from approximately $42,857 to $3.5 million, with performance periods typically spanning 12 to 36 months. The solicitation operated under the Research and Technology Development program (CFDA 12.910) and offered multiple funding instruments including grants, cooperative agreements, and procurement contracts.
Evaluation prioritized overall scientific and technical merit, potential contribution to DARPA's mission, offeror capabilities and experience, technology transition plans, and cost realism. Proposers were required to review existing I2O programs to ensure proposals were novel and avoided duplication of ongoing efforts. Classified submission protocols and Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) requirements applied where applicable.
The BAA underwent two temporary pauses (May 21 and June 9, 2026) due to internal I2O organizational changes, including an office name update and strategic realignment.
