About this opportunity

The National Institutes of Health is soliciting applications for the INCLUDE Project: Omics Phenotypes Related to Down Syndrome (X01 Clinical Trial Not Allowed), a forecast opportunity with no specified application deadline. No funding will be provided directly to applicants; instead, the NIH seeks applicants to submit biospecimens and generate integrated genomic and multi-omics data that will be contributed to the INCLUDE Data Hub for broad research community access.

Eligible applicants include higher education institutions (public and private), 501(c)(3) and non-501(c)(3) nonprofits, state and local governments, county and city/township governments, tribal organizations (federally recognized and not federally recognized), special district governments, public or Indian housing authorities, independent school districts, small businesses, for-profit organizations, U.S. territories, faith-based and community-based organizations, regional organizations, eligible federal agencies, and non-domestic entities.

Applicants are encouraged to propose omics assays of existing biospecimens collected from individuals with Down syndrome and controls. The resulting data and associated clinical and phenotypic information will become part of the INCLUDE Data Hub. The INCLUDE Project's broader portfolio addresses health conditions affecting individuals with Down syndrome including Alzheimer's disease and dementia, autism, cataracts, celiac disease, congenital heart disease, and diabetes. Applications are reviewed for scientific and technical merit by a scientific review group and for program relevance by a national advisory council or board. Funding determinations are based on scientific merit, program relevance, and program balance, with awards made annually. The assistance listing is 93.T21.

Forecast synopsis

The NIH INvestigation of Co-occurring conditions across the Lifespan to Understand Down syndromE (INCLUDE) Project seeks to improve health and quality-of-life for individuals with Down syndrome. The purpose of this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is to solicit applications to submit samples to NIH INCLUDE Project-supported resources to generate a large volume of integrated genomic and multi-omics data that will facilitate discovery of the molecular mechanisms of health conditions related to Down syndrome. The resulting data, and associated clinical and phenotypic data, will become part of the INCLUDE Data Hub for sharing with the research community. No funding will be provided directly to applicants under this NOFO. Applicants are encouraged to propose omics assays of existing biospecimens collected from individuals with Down syndrome and controls.
