About this opportunity
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is seeking applications to implement the Zero Suicide intervention and prevention model within health systems serving adults at risk of suicide. Grant recipients must implement all seven elements of the Zero Suicide framework: Lead, Train, Identify, Engage, Treat, Transition, and Improve, establishing a comprehensive, multi-setting approach to suicide prevention across their organizations. Applicants must be eligible entity types including states, local governments, federally recognized Indian tribal governments, public and private nonprofit institutions, and other public organizations, with preference for established healthcare systems capable of systematic implementation. The application will be evaluated through merit review conducted by SAMHSA, with consideration given to project merit, program analysis, and appropriate Center National Advisory Council concurrence. The application deadline is April 20, 2026, and applicants in states participating in Executive Order 12372 must ensure their state Single Point of Contact submits review recommendations within 60 days of the application deadline.
Awards under this cooperative agreement program typically range from $60,000 to $3.9 million, with project periods of one to five years divided into 12-month budget periods. Annual awards are subject to continued availability of funds and demonstrated progress. Performance locations are expected to be nationwide, with the grant supporting implementation activities across the applicant organization's health system(s) and associated healthcare settings. Grant recipients must maintain records for a minimum of three years, with extended retention requirements if final audits have not been completed or findings resolved.
Synopsis
