About this opportunity

The Department of Energy's National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL), on behalf of the Office of Electricity (OE), Grid Controls and Communications Division, Sensor and Data Analytics (SDA) Program, is seeking applications for cooperative agreements to enhance grid reliability and resilience through demonstrations of sensors and advanced data analytics. Eligible projects must include partnerships with data providers and power sector utilities, and demonstrate how sensor data analytics can support planning and operations decisions. The funding opportunity requires applicants to analyze power system sensor data to develop monitoring and control tools addressing objectives such as event detection, load forecasting, and decision support. Proposals will be evaluated on criteria such as the ability to leverage industry standards and integrate human factors into the analytics.

The total available federal funding is $7 million, with 4 to 7 awards of up to $1 million each anticipated. Projects must include a research and development phase requiring 20% cost share and a demonstration phase requiring 50% cost share from non-federal sources. The project period is up to 3 years, with an anticipated start date of September 30, 2024. Eligible applicants include domestic utilities, universities, and non-profits.
