About this opportunity

The National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) is soliciting applications for the GREGoRi Data Coordination and Outreach Center cooperative agreement with an application due date of October 30, 2026. This opportunity funds 1 award totaling $2 million, structured as a single-award program with a maximum project period of 5 years and a cap of $1.25 million in direct costs per project year.

Eligible applicants include higher education institutions (public and private), nonprofits (501(c)(3) and non-501(c)(3)), for-profit organizations, state and local governments, county and special district governments, tribal governments (federally recognized and non-federally recognized), Indian housing authorities, and independent school districts. Foreign organizations and non-domestic components of U.S. organizations are not eligible; however, foreign components as defined in the NIH Grants Policy Statement are allowed as subawards. Clinical trials are not permitted.

The Data Coordination and Outreach Center will serve as the central hub for the GREGoRi Research Consortium, coordinating data submission and release, supporting computational and analytical tools development, and facilitating consortium activities including annual full consortium meetings (75–100 attendees) and steering committee meetings (30–40 participants). Applicants must demonstrate organizational capacity to manage novel data types including whole genome sequencing, DNA methylation, chromatin accessibility profiling, transcriptome profiling, and proteomic/metabolomic data. The center must develop data management standards, collaborate with AnVIL for data availability, and establish web conference platforms for monthly meetings. This is a cooperative agreement requiring substantial NIH programmatic involvement, with recipients expected to participate actively in consortium governance and contribute to the GREGoR Data Resource through controlled-access sharing.

The funding opportunity uses the U01 activity code under Assistance Listing 93.172 (Human Genome Research). The earliest start date is March 2027.

Synopsis

The purpose of this Notice of Funding Opportunity is to establish the GREGoRi Data Coordination and Outreach Center. The Data Coordination and Outreach Center will act as the central point of coordination for the GREGoRi Research Program, and will be responsible for ensuring that the protocols, data, metadata, computational tools and other resources developed as part of GREGoRi are made available to the broader research community.
