About this opportunity

The Environmental Protection Agency's Great Lakes National Program Office is seeking applicants for the Great Lakes Fish Monitoring and Surveillance Program (GLFMSP) through a cooperative agreement. The program aims to collect, analyze, and report contaminant concentrations in Great Lakes top-predator fish, improve understanding of contaminant cycling in food webs, and screen for emerging chemicals. Key requirements include analyzing homogenized fish tissue samples from 10 GLFMSP stations, measuring a comprehensive list of 143 persistent toxic chemicals, and supporting Great Lakes ecosystem assessments. The funding opportunity has an application deadline of April 11, 2025, with anticipated award notification in June 2025.

The EPA plans to award one cooperative agreement of approximately $7.2 million over six years to support this long-term monitoring program. The project period is expected to run from June 2025 through November 2031, with the selected recipient analyzing fish tissue samples from locations across all five Great Lakes.
