About this opportunity
The National Institutes of Health National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI), in partnership with the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), is forecasting a Notice of Funding Opportunity to solicit applications for genomic community resources development, with no hard application due date currently set. This is a forecast announcement; applications are not being solicited at this time. The cooperative agreement mechanism will fund development, curation, and distribution of high-value genomic resources for basic and clinical genomics research.
Eligible applicants include public and private higher education institutions, state and local governments, tribal governments (federally recognized and non-federally recognized), nonprofit organizations (501(c)(3) and non-501(c)(3)), for-profit organizations, small businesses, special district and independent school districts, public housing authorities, faith-based and community-based organizations, regional organizations, U.S. territories or possessions, and eligible federal agencies. Non-domestic (foreign) entities are also eligible.
NHGRI encourages collaborative investigations combining expertise in computational genomics, data science, and clinical applications of genomics. Investigators with expertise in genomic resource development are encouraged to begin developing meaningful collaborations in anticipation of the NOFO publication.
The funding opportunity operates under Assistance Listing 93.172 (Human Genome Research) within the broader NHGRI portfolio, which supports basic and applied genomics research, workforce development, and ethical, legal, and social implications investigations. Award structure, cost share requirements, period of performance, and specific evaluation criteria will be detailed in the final NOFO. The timeline from submission to award for individual and project grants typically spans nine months under this program.
Forecast synopsis
The National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI), with other NIH Institutes and Centers (ICs) National Cancer Institute (NCI) and National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), intends to publish a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) to solicit applications to facilitate genomic research and the dissemination of its products, NHGRI proposes this RFA to support both new and existing genomic resources of demonstrated broad value to the research community. Awards under this NOFO will support the development, curation, and distribution of high-value genomic resources valuable for both basic and clinical genomics research. Applications are not being solicited at this time. Notice is being provided to allow potential applicants sufficient time to develop meaningful collaborations and responsive projects. This NOFO will utilize the U24 activity code. Investigators with expertise and insights into this area of genomic resource development are encouraged to begin to consider applying for this new NOFO. In addition, collaborative investigations combining expertise in computational genomics and data science and clinical applications of genomics will be encouraged and these investigators should also begin considering applying for this application.
