About this opportunity

The Department of Health and Human Services Public Health Service, specifically the Office of Research Integrity (ORI), is seeking grant applications for conferences and workshops that promote research integrity and disseminate related findings. The grant opportunity (ID 355827-F) targets public and nonprofit organizations, including universities, hospitals, faith-based organizations, and tribal entities, to develop events addressing research integrity challenges. Proposed projects must include at least one of three core elements: thematic conferences, skill-building workshops, or outreach and education events focused on research conduct and misconduct. Applicants should design conferences with measurable outcomes, such as knowledge retention, knowledge sharing, or practice changes, and be prepared to disseminate materials and key insights from their events. The grant opportunity is part of the Research on Research Integrity program (CFDA 93.085) and requires projects to align with federal research conduct regulations, particularly 42 C.F.R. Part 93.

While specific award amounts are not explicitly stated, historical data suggests federal grant awards under this program typically range from $40,000 to $750,000, with project periods spanning one to two years. Eligible applicants include domestic and international organizations, provided the proposed activity offers a domestic benefit to Public Health Service-funded institutions. The grant opportunity is open to a broad range of entity types, including non-501(c)(3) nonprofits, state and local governments, higher education institutions, tribal organizations, and for-profit entities. The application deadline is July 30, 2025, offering potential applicants substantial time to develop comprehensive proposals that advance research integrity across multiple disciplines and institutional contexts.

Synopsis

The Office of Research Integrity anticipates making award(s) for Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 under the authority of 42 U.S.C. § 241 (Section 301 of the Public Health Service Act). Institutions applying for or receiving Public Health Service (PHS) support for biomedical or behavioral research, biomedical or behavioral research training, or activities related to that research or research training are required to "[f]oster a research environment that promotes research integrity and the responsible conduct of research, , discourages research misconduct, and deals promptly with allegations or evidence of possible research misconduct." 42 C.F.R. § 93.300(c). Core to ORI's mission is the support of education and outreach activities that aid PHS-funded research institutions in their efforts "to teach the responsible conduct of research, promote research integrity, prevent research misconduct, and…to respond effectively to allegations of research misconduct[.]" (65 Fed.Reg. 30600, 30601 (May 12, 2000)). Our Ensuring Research Integrity Conference Grant Program contributes to this mission by supporting conferences that advance the evolving field of research integrity and build the knowledge base in research misconduct, research integrity, and prevention of research misconduct and detrimental research practices. We seek to fund, through this opportunity, conferences that provide a forum for discussion of and produce tangible outcomes related to ensuring research integrity and compliance with 42 C.F.R. Part 93. In-person and virtual conferences, or a combination of both, will be considered for funding.
