About this opportunity

The Department of Transportation Federal Railroad Administration is seeking applications for the FY25 Corridor Identification and Development - Cascadia High-Speed Rail Step 2 grant opportunity. This cooperative agreement funding will support comprehensive intercity passenger rail planning and development efforts to create a pipeline of shovel-ready rail projects across the country. Key objectives include guiding long-term rail development and identifying capital projects ready for federal and other funding. Applicants must demonstrate the capability to conduct planning studies, develop service development plans, and advance the implementation of new or expanded intercity passenger rail services. Proposals are due by November 27, 2024.

Recent Federal-State Partnership for Intercity Passenger Rail grants have ranged from $500,000 to over $750 million, with project durations spanning one to seven years. Eligible applicants include state and local governments, Indian Tribes, and public agencies. Projects may focus on major rail corridors like the Northeast Corridor or state-supported routes, with a priority on funding capital improvements that reduce the state of good repair backlog, improve performance, or expand service.

Synopsis

The Corridor Identification and Development (Corridor ID) Program is a comprehensive intercity passenger rail planning and development program that will help guide intercity passenger rail development throughout the country and create a pipeline of intercity passenger rail projects ready for implementation. Unlike previous Federal intercity passenger rail planning efforts, the Corridor ID Program is intended both to support a sustained long-term development effort, and to set forth a capital project pipeline ready for Federal (and other) funding. The Corridor ID Program is intended to become the primary means for directing Federal financial support and technical assistance toward the development of proposals for new or improved intercity passenger rail services throughout the United States.
