About this opportunity

The Corridor Identification and Development (Corridor ID) Program is a comprehensive intercity passenger rail planning and development program administered by the Department of Transportation Federal Railroad Administration. The program aims to guide intercity passenger rail development nationwide and create a pipeline of projects ready for implementation. Key objectives include reducing railroad asset backlogs, enhancing rail performance, and establishing new or improved passenger rail corridors. The program will fund capital projects, planning activities, and service development plans through cooperative agreements. The application deadline is February 1, 2025.

The Federal Railroad Administration is seeking proposals for corridor planning studies, capital projects, and service development plans, with potential awards ranging from $250,000 to over $3.7 billion. Recent federal grant opportunities have targeted specific corridors, such as the Boston & Albany Corridor and Scranton to New York Penn Station Corridor, with a geographic focus on regions like the Northeast Corridor, California, Texas, and the Cascadia area.

Synopsis

The Corridor Identification and Development (Corridor ID) Program is a comprehensive intercity passenger rail planning and development program that will help guide intercity passenger rail development throughout the country and create a pipeline of intercity passenger rail projects ready for implementation. Unlike previous Federal intercity passenger rail planning efforts, the Corridor ID Program is intended both to support a sustained long-term development effort, and to set forth a capital project pipeline ready for Federal (and other) funding. The Corridor ID Program is intended to become the primary means for directing Federal financial support and technical assistance toward the development of proposals for new or improved intercity passenger rail services throughout the United States.
