The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Weather Program Office (WPO) is soliciting proposals for the Testbeds grant competition under the FY2025 Weather Program Office Research Programs Announcement. This funding opportunity aligns with the Weather Research and Forecasting Innovation Act of 2017 and seeks projects that will support new weather, water, and earth system observing and forecasting applications. Proposals should be responsive to priorities outlined in the Science Advisory Board's 2021 Priorities for Weather Research Report and the National Weather Service's strategic priority to advance probabilistic forecasting and decision support services. Applicants must indicate which of the five relevant testbeds (Climate, Fire Weather, Hazardous Weather, Hurricane and Ocean, and Hydrometeorology) their project will engage with. Letters of Intent are strongly encouraged by October 2, 2024, and full applications are due by December 2, 2024.

The approximate total award funding per year for this competition is $4,200,000. NOAA encourages applicants to write proposals and perform work consistent with the agency's core values, including diversity, inclusion, accessibility, civil rights, and scientific integrity. Awards are expected to start in August 2025 for a maximum of 3 years, and the program is funded under the Weather and Air Quality Research program (CFDA 11.459).
