About this opportunity
The National Park Service is soliciting applications for the FY2025 & FY2026 Historic Preservation Fund Paul Bruhn Historic Revitalization Subgrant Program, with an application deadline of June 23, 2026, at 11:59 PM ET. The program distributes $17 million across approximately 20 awards ranging from $200,000 to $750,000 per award to support subgrant programs that rehabilitate historic properties in rural areas and foster economic development.
Eligible applicants include state governments, county governments, city or township governments, special district governments, public higher education institutions, federally recognized tribal governments, and nonprofits with or without 501(c)(3) status. Cost sharing is not required. Applicants must register with SAM.gov to obtain a Unique Entity Identifier before submission through Grants.gov.
Funded subgrant programs must target historic properties listed in or determined eligible for the National Register of Historic Places within the grantee's jurisdiction; federally owned or leased properties are ineligible. Eligible costs include rehabilitation, architectural and engineering services (capped at 20% of total project costs), accessibility improvements, site security, and fire safety improvements. New construction, site acquisition, long-term maintenance beyond the grant period, and lobbying are ineligible. Administrative costs cannot exceed 25% of total project costs, with applications showing 5% or lower administrative costs receiving the highest rating.
Merit review uses four equally weighted criteria at 25 points each: Subgrant Program Objectives, Need/Urgency/Threat, Feasibility, and Sustainability. Recipients must establish preservation easements with terms of 5 to 25 years depending on funding amounts, comply with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, meet the Secretary of the Interior's Standards and Guidelines, and comply with the National Environmental Policy Act. The anticipated project period runs October 1, 2026, through September 30, 2030. Selection notifications are anticipated approximately 6 months after the application deadline. The program operates under CFDA 15.966.
Synopsis
