About this opportunity
The Department of Energy (DOE) is seeking applications for the Flexible and Innovative Transformer Technologies (FITT) program, which aims to stimulate innovative designs, prototypes, and field demonstrations of advanced distribution and power transformers. This includes flexible, modular, scalable, hybrid, and solid-state transformers that can be utilized across a range of distribution to transmission scale applications. The program is divided into two Areas of Interest: 1) Research, Development, and Demonstration (RD&D) for Distribution Transformers, and 2) RD&D for Power Transformers. Applicants must meet the program's objectives and will be evaluated based on criteria such as technical merit, innovation, and potential impact. The application deadline is April 26, 2024, with award announcements expected in August 2024 and project start in December 2024.
DOE expects to make up to $18 million in federal funding available for 5-9 awards, with individual award sizes up to $4.5 million for distribution transformers and up to $7 million for power transformers. A 20% cost share is required for the R&D phase and 50% for the demonstration phase. The cooperative agreements will be funded under the Electricity Research, Development and Analysis program (CFDA 81.122).
