This competitive grant program provides cost-sharing awards to eligible state and territorial agencies for projects that protect, restore, and enhance coastal wetland ecosystems. Eligible applicants include state governments in territories bordering the Great Lakes, Atlantic, Gulf, and Pacific coasts. Proposals will be evaluated across 13 merit criteria, including wetlands conservation, maritime forest protection, endangered species habitat, fisheries enhancement, and overall ecological and community impact. The application deadline is July 18, 2025.

The program will distribute approximately $20 million across an expected 24 awards, with individual award amounts ranging from $50,000 to $1,000,000. Projects must demonstrate long-term conservation benefits, with a minimum 20-year conservation commitment. The anticipated project period is from January 1, 2026, to December 1, 2028, and cost-sharing is required, with jurisdictions potentially eligible for up to 75% federal funding.

Synopsis

The National Coastal Wetlands Conservation Grant Program supports the long‐term conservation of coastal wetland ecosystems for the benefit of coastal communities, fish and wildlife and their habitats, and the recreating public. The Program provides eligible State and Territory agencies with cost sharing awards for projects that protect and restore valuable coastal wetland resources. Projects may include acquisition of a real property interest in a coastal wetland ecosystem and the restoration, enhancement, or management of coastal wetlands.Coastal wetlands are valued because they protect against flooding, help maintain water quality, and provide habitats for fish and wildlife. Coastal environments are also important economically, generating billions of dollars annually through recreational and commercial fishing, boating, and tourism. The Program is co-administered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Coastal Program and the Office of Conservation Investment.
