About this opportunity
The National Institutes of Health Office of Data Science Strategy is forecasting renewal of a Notice of Funding Opportunity to support established biomedical data repositories and knowledge bases, with no applications being solicited at this time pending expiration of the current PAR-23-237. This opportunity is restricted to applicants with existing, documented data resources that have demonstrated scientific impact and retain potential for continued community benefit.
Eligible applicants include for-profit and nonprofit organizations, institutions of higher education (public and private), state and local governments, tribal governments (federally recognized and other), school districts, special district governments, public or Indian housing authorities, faith-based or community-based organizations, regional organizations, eligible federal agencies, U.S. territories or possessions, and non-domestic entities. No cost share or matching requirement is specified.
The funding opportunity operates under CFDA 93.310, Trans-NIH Research Support, which historically issues 255–410 awards annually. Awards are structured as Project Grants, Cooperative Agreements, or Block Grants, with support typically extending one year initially and up to four additional years contingent on scientific review group recommendation, national advisory council approval, successful annual performance, and fund availability. Scientific merit review encompasses significance, approach, innovation, principal investigator competency, resource adequacy, budget justification, and where applicable, protections for human subjects, animals, or the environment. Funding decisions incorporate both peer review and program relevance assessment. Review cycle length is four to nine months. Grantees must retain financial and programmatic records for three years from annual Federal SF-425 submission date, subject to audit under OMB 2 CFR 200 and 45 CFR 75, Subpart F.
Forecast synopsis
The Office of Data Science Strategy (ODSS) along with other participating institutes and Centers intends to renew the Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) PAR-23-237.
This funding opportunity is intended to provide continuation to support established biomedical data repositories and knowledge bases as distinct and separate resources that have demonstrated impact and have potential for continued benefit to the community served. Applications funded under this NOFO for established data resources must already exist, address the needs of the targeted biomedical research community, document scientific impact they have had thus far, and have potential for continued benefit to the community served.
No applications are being solicited at this time. Given the expiration of PAR-23-237, this notice will allow for potential applicants the opportunity to continue developing high-impact applications to renew funding support for existing high-performing data repositories and knowledge bases.
