About this opportunity

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is soliciting cooperative agreement applications to expand its network of collaborating institutions for research and program support addressing non-malaria parasitic threats and neglected tropical diseases affecting Americans domestically or abroad, with an application deadline of July 6, 2026.

Eligible applicants include state and local governments, tribal governments (federally and non-federally recognized), institutions of higher education (public and private), 501(c)(3) and non-501(c)(3) nonprofits, for-profit organizations, public or Indian housing authorities, special district governments, independent school districts, and other entity types. The CDC expects to make 2 awards (subject to available funds). Each applicant may receive between $500,000 and $1,000,000 per annual budget period, with total program funding of $10,000,000 over the 5-year performance period ($2,000,000 available per 12-month budget cycle).

Applicants must conduct strategic and applied research addressing critical barriers to parasitic disease and neglected tropical disease prevention, with activities required in multiple neglected tropical disease-endemic countries or U.S. territories. At minimum, applicants must conduct at least two specified activities such as field studies on transmission indicators, evaluation of new diagnostic tests, development of mass drug administration strategies, or post-treatment surveillance strategies. Recipients must establish SMART objectives, develop data management plans, and provide measurable outcomes. A mandatory letter of support from relevant health ministries in proposed endemic countries is required.

Applications undergo two-level scientific merit review assessing significance, investigator qualifications, innovation, approach, and environment, followed by secondary review considering program priorities, relevance, and geographic considerations. A letter of intent is due June 18, 2026. Expected award date is September 29, 2026, with activities commencing September 30, 2026. This opportunity is assigned to CFDA 93.326 (Strengthening Public Health through Surveillance, Epidemiologic Research, Disease Detection and Prevention).

Synopsis

The purpose of this notice of funding opportunity (NOFO) is to expand the network of institutes working with CDC to help eliminate or control non-malaria parasitic threats and neglected tropical diseases (NTDs). This NOFO will focus on threats and diseases that may affect Americans at home or abroad or whose elimination or control would serve other U.S. priorities. This program will also support research that will provide tools and information to improve NTD and parasitic disease program activities. The program will also integrate evaluation and surveillance activities for multiple NTDs and other parasitic diseases.
