About this opportunity
The Defense Health Agency through the Department of the Army Medical Command seeks proposals for translational medical products and knowledge-based tools that advance promising preclinical findings into clinical applications addressing prevention, detection, diagnosis, treatment, or quality of life improvements for military Service Members, Veterans, and their Families. Applicants must develop tangible items such as drugs or devices or knowledge products such as clinical decision-making tools and practice guidelines, with research aligned to congressionally directed FY26 PRMRP topic areas and corresponding strategic goals across portfolios including autoimmune disorders, cardiovascular health, infectious diseases, neuroscience, orthopaedic medicine, and respiratory health. The program requires that proposed research take established proof-of-concept or prototype technologies through final preclinical development stages, with outcomes resulting in regulatory filings (IND/IDE) or translation into clinical practice. Applications undergo a two-tier competitive review process, with peer review evaluating technical merit and programmatic review assessing alignment with PRMRP priorities and military relevance. The pre-application letter of intent deadline is July 23, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time, and the full application deadline is August 6, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time, with an application verification period extending through August 13, 2026.
Approximately $67.2 million in total funding will support approximately 12 Technology/Therapeutic Development Award applications, with individual award caps of $5.6 million and a maximum performance period of 4 years. Peer review is scheduled for October/November 2026, with programmatic review occurring in February/March 2027, and awards anticipated by September 30, 2027, utilizing FY26 funds that expire for use on September 30, 2032. Eligible applicants include extramural and intramural U.S. Department of War organizations, foreign and domestic entities, and for-profit and nonprofit organizations, with research to be conducted at eligible extramural and intramural locations domestically and internationally.

Summary: The fiscal year 2026 (FY26) Peer Reviewed Medical Research Program (PRMRP) Technology/Therapeutic Development Award, a product-driven award mechanism, intends to support the translation of promising preclinical findings into products for clinical applications, including prevention, detection, diagnosis, treatment, or quality of life, for a disease or condition related to one of the congressionally directed FY26 PRMRP topic areas and one of the FY26 PRMRP strategic goals. Products can be tangible items, such as drugs or devices, or can be knowledge products, such as clinical decision-making tools or practice guidelines. Products in development should address or have dual purpose potential for the health care needs of military Service Members, Veterans and their Families.
Distinctive Features: For the PRMRP Technology/Therapeutic Development Award, the program expects the research proposed will take an already established proof-of-concept or prototype through the final stages of preclinical development. The PRMRP also expects that the research outcome will be a regulatory filing or translation of findings into clinical practice, as applicable.
Funding Details: The Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP) expects to allot roughly $67.2M to fund approximately 12 Technology/Therapeutic Development Award applications with total cost caps of $5.6M per award. The maximum period of performance is 4 years. It is anticipated that awards made from this FY26 funding opportunity will be funded with FY26 funds, which will expire for use on September 30, 2032.
