About this opportunity
The Department of the Army Medical Command is soliciting applications for Parkinson's Research Program Investigator-Initiated Research Awards to support rigorous, multidisciplinary research projects with application deadline November 6, 2026. Approximately $10 million will fund approximately five awards at a total cost cap of $2 million per award over a maximum period of performance of three years, with no mandatory cost share requirement.
Eligible applicants include extramural and intramural U.S. Department of War organizations, foreign and domestic organizations, for-profit and nonprofit organizations, and public or private entities. Independent investigators at all academic levels are eligible to serve as Principal Investigator, Initiating PI, or Partnering PI regardless of ethnicity, nationality, or citizenship status. Each investigator may be named on no more than two PRP IIRA applications, and the Initiating PI must dedicate at least 15 percent of their full-time professional effort to the award. The program allows multiple PIs, with up to two Partnering PIs in addition to the Initiating PI.
All applications must address at least one of four FY26 focus areas: understanding Parkinson's disease biological and clinical heterogeneity; development and characterization of in vitro model systems; biological mechanisms or biomarkers of unmet medical needs; or interventions addressing unmet medical needs. Preliminary data are required. Clinical trials are allowed. Research spans basic science through clinical trials.
Applications undergo two-tier review: peer review evaluates technical merit against stated criteria; programmatic review recommends funding based on technical merit, military relevance, program intent, and other specified criteria. Letter of Intent deadline is October 23, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Peer review is scheduled for January 2027 and programmatic review for March 2027. Awards are anticipated no later than September 30, 2027, funded with FY26 funds expiring September 30, 2032.
CFDA 12.420 (Military Medical Research and Development).
