About this opportunity

The Department of the Army Medical Command is soliciting applications for the Ovarian Cancer Research Program Investigator-Initiated Research Award with a full application deadline of October 1, 2026 and a pre-application deadline of July 13, 2026. Principal Investigators must be at or above the Assistant Professor level. Eligible applicants include extramural and intramural U.S. Department of War organizations (foreign and domestic, for-profit and nonprofit). The program excludes clinical trials.

The CDMRP expects to allot approximately $16.45 million to fund roughly 14 applications. Single PI awards are capped at $1.05 million; Partnering PI awards (pairing two investigators as co-PIs) are capped at $1.40 million. All awards support up to 4 years of research. Award notifications will be issued no later than September 30, 2027 using FY26 funds that expire September 30, 2032.

Applicants must address at least one of six areas of emphasis: novel therapeutic strategies, risk stratification and early detection, care and survivorship improvements, military service-related exposure relationships, prevention approaches, or basic biology and etiology of ovarian cancer. Applications must demonstrate rigorous study design per STROBE, CONSORT, SPIRIT, and ARRIVE 2.0 guidelines, include preliminary data, and provide data sharing plans. The application process is two-tiered: pre-applications submitted through eBRAP are screened for scientific rationale, hypothesis and aims, relevance to areas of emphasis, and impact. Invited full applications undergo peer review evaluating research strategy and feasibility, impact, personnel qualifications, and budget appropriateness, followed by programmatic review assessing peer ratings, relevance to OCRP priorities, and military health relevance.

The opportunity falls under CFDA 12.420 (Military Medical Research and Development). Extramural applicants submit full applications through Grants.gov; intramural DOW organizations submit through eBRAP. Peer review occurs in November 2026 and programmatic review in January 2027.

Synopsis

Summary: The Ovarian Cancer Research Program (OCRP) Investigator-Initiated Research Award is intended to support high-impact research that addresses a critical need and has the potential to make an important contribution to ovarian cancer or patient/survivor care.

Distinctive Features: Application must contain strong research plan with sound scientific rational and logical reasoning. Preliminary data are required. Research projects may focus on any phase of research, from basic laboratory research through translational research, excluding clinical trials.

Partnering Principal Investigator (PI) Option: The Partnering PI Option is structured so that two investigators, each of whom will be designated as a PI, will work synergistically on a single project. The results of this partnering project should significantly advance the research beyond what would be possible through individual efforts.
