About this opportunity
The Department of the Army Medical Command is soliciting applications for Director and Deputy Director positions to lead the Epilepsy Research Program Virtual Post-Traumatic Epilepsy Research Center (ViP-TERC), with a full application deadline of August 17, 2026. This is a partnering mechanism requiring an Initiating Principal Investigator (Director) and a Partnering PI (Deputy Director), each receiving a separate award; all associated applications may be withdrawn if either the initiating or partnering application is rejected or administratively withdrawn. An investigator may be named on only one FY26 ViP-TERC Leadership Award application as a PI.
Eligible applicants include extramural and intramural U.S. Department of War organizations, foreign and domestic entities, for-profit and nonprofit organizations, and public or private entities. Both Director and Deputy Director must have established careers in post-traumatic epilepsy research, documented PTE research funding, and peer-reviewed publications. No cost share is required.
The Defense Health Agency expects to allot approximately $1.6 million to fund one Leadership Award with a maximum four-year period of performance. The application is a two-step process requiring submission of a letter of intent through eBRAP by August 3, 2026, followed by full application submission through Grants.gov (extramural) or eBRAP (intramural organizations). The Initiating PI submits a 20-page project narrative describing ViP-TERC vision, leadership background, management structure, Faculty and evaluation plans, and growth/sustainment strategies, plus supporting documentation, abstracts, statement of work, impact statement, lived-experience consultation plan with at least two named consultants, representations, budget forms, and biographical sketches. The Partnering PI submits an abbreviated package with jointly-created statement of work, representations, and budget.
Peer review occurs in October 2026, programmatic review in December 2026, with awards anticipated by September 30, 2027. Applications are evaluated on vision, ViP-TERC leadership qualifications, management approach, evaluation plan quality, lived-experience consultation integration, and anticipated impact on post-traumatic epilepsy research and patient care.
