About this opportunity

The Department of the Army Medical Command is soliciting applications for the Combat Readiness - Medical Research Program Translational Research Award to fund hypothesis-driven translational research accelerating promising trauma care technologies and ideas into clinical solutions that maximize casualty survivability and improve patient care at the point of injury, with full applications due November 18, 2026.

Eligible applicants include extramural and intramural U.S. Department of War organizations, foreign and domestic organizations, and for-profit and nonprofit entities; independent investigators at all career levels may serve as Principal Investigator, though individuals in mentored positions are excluded. A Principal Investigator may be named on only one FY26 CRRP TRA application.

The program expects to allot approximately $4.37 million to fund three awards with total cost caps of $2.45 million per award, consisting of a $1.45 million base award with a maximum two-year period of performance and an optional $1.00 million research effort with a maximum one-year period. Clinical trials are permitted only during the optional research effort phase.

Research must demonstrate a minimum biomedical technology readiness level of 4 or knowledge readiness level of 4, include preliminary data, and address at least one focus area: battlefield diagnostics/triage/decision aids, treatments, or battlefield readiness. Research using well-validated animal models is allowed. Applications cannot support foundational research or studies requiring exception from informed consent.

Pre-applications were due August 17, 2026; invitations to submit full applications were issued by October 14, 2026. Peer review occurs in January 2027 and programmatic review in March 2027. Awards will be made with FY26 funds expiring September 30, 2032, and no later than September 30, 2027.

The opportunity is funded under CFDA 12.420, Military Medical Research and Development.
