About this opportunity

The National Institutes of Health is soliciting applications for Dissemination and Implementation Research in Health (R01 Clinical Trial Optional) with a due date of January 7, 2028. This opportunity supports studies identifying, developing, and testing strategies to overcome barriers to adoption, adaptation, integration, sustainability, scale-up, and spread of evidence-based interventions, practices, programs, tools, treatments, guidelines, and policies across health systems and underrepresented communities. Applications are open to a broad range of eligible applicants including state and local governments, 501(c)(3) and non-501(c)(3) nonprofits, small businesses, for-profit organizations, public and private higher education institutions, tribal organizations (federally and non-federally recognized), independent school districts, county and city governments, and special district governments. Additional eligible applicants include Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian Serving Institutions, Asian American Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institutions, faith-based and community-based organizations, HBCUs, Hispanic-serving institutions, tribally controlled colleges and universities, non-domestic entities, regional organizations, and U.S. territories and possessions.

Studies promoting equitable dissemination and implementation among underrepresented populations are encouraged. The program also welcomes research on de-implementation—stopping or reducing ineffective, unproven, low-value, or harmful practices—and methodological advancement in dissemination and implementation science. Applications addressing re-implementation of evidence-based health services disrupted by disasters including pandemics remain in scope. All applications must align with the mission of at least one NIH Institute or Center.

The opportunity spans multiple parent grant programs: Lung Diseases Research (CFDA 93.838), Trans-NIH Research Support (CFDA 93.310), Cardiovascular Diseases Research (CFDA 93.837), Translation and Implementation Science Research for Heart, Lung, Blood Diseases and Sleep Disorders (CFDA 93.840), Arthritis Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases Research (CFDA 93.846), Mental Health Research Grants (CFDA 93.242), Diabetes Digestive and Kidney Diseases Extramural Research (CFDA 93.847), Alcohol Research Programs (CFDA 93.273), Drug Use and Addiction Research Programs (CFDA 93.279), Environmental Health (CFDA 93.113), Child Health and Human Development Extramural Research (CFDA 93.865), Oral Diseases and Disorders Research (CFDA 93.121), Nursing Research (CFDA 93.361), Minority Health and Health Disparities Research (CFDA 93.307), Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research (CFDA 93.855), Cancer Control (CFDA 93.399), Extramural Research Programs in the Neurosciences and Neurological Disorders (CFDA 93.853), Blood Diseases and Resources Research (CFDA 93.839), Human Genome Research (CFDA 93.172), Research and Training in Complementary and Integrative Health (CFDA 93.213), Aging Research (CFDA 93.866), Vision Research (CFDA 93.867), and National Center on Sleep Disorders Research (CFDA 93.233).
