About this opportunity
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is soliciting Commercial Vehicle Safety Plans (CVSPs) from state governments through the Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program (MCSAP) for Fiscal Year 2026. The grant aims to reduce the number and severity of commercial motor vehicle (CMV) crashes, injuries, and fatalities by providing financial assistance to states and U.S. territories. Key objectives include conducting driver and vehicle inspections, performing traffic enforcement, implementing carrier investigations, and managing safety data. Evaluation criteria will focus on the comprehensiveness of state safety strategies, targeting areas such as work zone safety, human trafficking prevention, and addressing high-risk carriers. The final submission deadline is 5pm EST on October 20, 2025, with extension requests accepted until September 9, 2025.
The estimated total funding for this grant opportunity is $494,962,500, with individual state allocations ranging from $1.6 million to $51.4 million. The grant will support a three-year performance period, with funding distributed using a formula that considers various state-specific factors. Performance will take place within each state's transportation and safety infrastructure, with a focus on developing and implementing targeted safety programs for commercial motor vehicles. States must submit their applications electronically through Grants.gov and complete the Commercial Vehicle Safety Plans using the eCVSP Tool, with the ultimate goal of improving overall commercial vehicle safety nationwide.
