About this opportunity
The Department of Defense (DoD) is offering the Fiscal Year 2026 Defense University Research Instrumentation Program (DURIP), which provides funding for accredited U.S. institutions of higher education to acquire major research equipment and instrumentation supporting DoD-relevant research and education. The program is jointly administered by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR), Army Research Office (ARO), and Office of Naval Research (ONR). Proposals will be evaluated equally on the impact on existing or potential DoD-funded research, importance to DoD missions, and potential to enhance scientific education through research. The deadline for pre-proposal inquiries is April 11, 2025, and the proposal submission deadline is April 25, 2025, at 5:00 PM Eastern Time.
Individual awards typically range from $50,000 to $3,000,000, with a total program funding of approximately $34 million pending appropriations. The equipment and instrumentation must support research in areas of interest to the Department of Defense, and for-profit organizations are not eligible to apply. The anticipated start date for the awards is December 1, 2025, and the research is to be conducted at the recipient's facilities.
