About this opportunity

Eligible applicants must be current or former Drug-Free Communities (DFC) Support Program recipients and either possess 501(c)(3) nonprofit status or partner with an eligible fiscal agent. Applicants must demonstrate that local opioid and/or methamphetamine misuse rates are significantly higher than national averages, submit a detailed 12-month action plan using evidence-based strategies, and provide an evaluation and performance measurement plan including participation in a national cross-site evaluation. Merit review will evaluate applications on five criteria: background and approach (25 points), communities served (5 points), work plan (20 points), evaluation and performance measurement (25 points), and organizational capacity (25 points), for a total of 100 points. The application deadline is June 8, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time, with an expected award date of August 30, 2026.

Approximately 50 grants will be awarded at $75,000 per applicant per 12-month budget period over a five-year period of performance, with total program funding projected at $18,750,000. Award amounts will range from $250,000 to $418,329 per cooperative agreement, with project periods spanning one to five years on 12-month budget cycles. Performance will take place within the applicant's local community served by the coalition, with funding supporting prevention efforts and capacity building in communities throughout the United States. No cost-sharing is required, and recipients may be eligible for non-competitive continuation based on satisfactory progress.
