The program aims to support initiatives that improve local food systems and address food insecurity in low-income communities. Eligible applicants can apply for two types of grants: Planning Projects (PP) and Community Food Projects (CFP). The program objectives include increasing access to fresh, healthy foods and fostering understanding of national food security trends. Applications will be evaluated based on criteria outlined in the Request for Applications (RFA). The deadline for submitting applications for FY 2025 funding is November 7, 2024.

Approximately $4.8 million in funding will be available for each fiscal year. Planning Projects can request $25,000 to $50,000 with a 1:1 matching requirement, while Community Food Projects can request $125,000 to $400,000 per year for up to 4 years, also with a 1:1 matching requirement.
