About this opportunity
The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) seeks applicants for the Centers for Structural Biology of HIV and Other Infectious Diseases cooperative agreement with an application due date of May 28, 2027. This is a forecast opportunity; award amounts, number of awards, period of performance, and cost share requirements are not yet specified in the announcement.
Eligible applicants include higher education institutions (public and private), state and local governments, federally recognized and non-federally recognized tribal governments and organizations, 501(c)(3) and non-501(c)(3) nonprofits, small businesses, for-profit organizations, public or Indian housing authorities, independent school districts, special district governments, faith-based or community-based organizations, regional organizations, U.S. territories or possessions, and eligible federal agencies. Non-domestic (non-U.S.) entities and foreign organizations are not eligible as primary applicants. Foreign components and unfunded international collaborations are permitted; applications involving foreign subawards or subcontracts will be deemed noncompliant and not considered for funding.
The program will support multidisciplinary consortia of structural biologists, microbiologists, and associated experts to solve complex biological structures related to HIV and other infectious diseases. Centers will conduct high-resolution 3D structural analyses, computational molecular dynamics, functional and mechanistic characterization at molecular and cellular levels, atomic-level visualization of molecular complexes in cells and tissues, and structure-guided design of molecules to combat infectious diseases. Centers are expected to facilitate new collaborations, leverage shared resources, offer services and resources to the research community, and train the next generation of structural biology researchers.
Applications will be reviewed for scientific and technical merit by scientific review groups and national advisory councils based on significance, approach, innovation, investigator competency, resource adequacy, budget justification, and program relevance. The opportunity falls under CFDA 93.855 (Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research) and CFDA 93.310 (Trans-NIH Research Support).
Synopsis
The purpose of this notice of funding opportunity (NOFO) is to support multidisciplinary consortia of structural biologists, microbiologists, and associated experts to solve complex biological structures related to the prevention, treatment, and cure of HIV and other infectious diseases. Centers are expected to facilitate new collaborations, leverage shared resources, offer services and resources to the research community, and train the next generation of scientists engaged in structural biology of infectious diseases.
Eligibility
Refer to Section III. Eligibility Information in the NOFO for additional information on eligibility.Foreign Organizations/International CollaborationsNon-domestic (non-U.S.) Entities (Foreign Organization) are not eligible to apply.Non-domestic (non-U.S.) components of U.S. Organizations are not eligible to apply.Foreign components, as defined in the NIH Grants Policy Statement, are allowed. NIH will no longer issue awards (i.e., new, renewal, or non-competing continuation) to domestic or foreign entities that involve foreign subawards/subcontracts. All NIH-funded research involving foreign subawards/subcontracts must be submitted in response to a NOFO that is specifically designated for funded international collaborations. See NIH Grants Policy Statement 16.8 Collaborative International Research Awards.Applications involving foreign subawards/subcontracts submitted in response to this NOFO will be deemed noncompliant and will not be considered for funding. This policy applies to all monetary international collaborations resulting in foreign subawards/subcontracts, however, it does not preclude unfunded international collaborations or foreign components, funding for foreign consultants, or procurement of unique equipment or supplies from foreign vendors.
