About this opportunity
The Department of Health and Human Services, through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, is soliciting cooperative agreement applications to strengthen capacity and performance of national immunization programs in Eastern Mediterranean Region countries; this is a forecast opportunity with no firm application deadline specified in the source.
Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofits, tribal governments (federally recognized and non-federally recognized), higher education institutions (public and private), city and county governments, state governments, small businesses, for-profit organizations, independent school districts, special district governments, and public or Indian housing authorities. Foreign applicants are also eligible.
The recipient will strengthen prevention, detection, and response capabilities for vaccine-preventable diseases, including immunization service delivery and comprehensive VPD surveillance. Activities encompass developing targeted strategies to improve access and coverage among un- and under-immunized populations, fostering program sustainability through National Immunization Technical Advisory Groups, immunization safety oversight, and workforce capacity development. Recipients will also advance program evaluation to identify immunization program challenges and guide evidence-based policy. The cooperative agreement may support other global health priorities aligned with CDC goals.
The award operates under CFDA 93.318 (Protecting and Improving Health Globally: Building and Strengthening Public Health Impact, Systems, Capacity and Security). Cooperative agreements typically run one to five years with initial awards funding the first 12-month budget period. Non-competitive continuation is possible upon satisfactory progress and fund availability. Recent awards under this program range from $250 thousand to $27.4 million, with typical awards between $1 million and $10 million for five-year periods. Applications will be evaluated on scientific and technical merit, fund availability, and alignment with CDC priorities.
Forecast synopsis
The purpose of this award is to strengthen capacity and performance of national immunization programs in countries of the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR) to achieve regional vaccine preventable disease (VPD) control, elimination and eradication targets (i.e., polio eradication, measles and rubella elimination), reduce VPD-related morbidity and mortality, and address emerging public health threats. The Recipient will strengthen the capacities to prevent, detect, and respond to VPDs in EMR countries, including immunization service delivery, comprehensive VPD surveillance, and capacity needed to prepare for, detect, and respond to VPD outbreaks. The recipient will develop and implement targeted strategies to improve access to and coverage among high-risk un- and under-immunized populations. The recipient will also work to foster immunization program sustainability (i.e., evidence-based decision-making through National Immunization Technical Advisory Groups (NITAGs), immunization safety, and workforce capacity), and advance program evaluation to innovate for increased immunization program impact (i.e., identify and address key immunization program challenges, use of evidence to guide immunization policy). This cooperative agreement may also support activities to address other global health priorities in line with CDC goals.
