About this opportunity

This Federal Grant Opportunity seeks to support state, local, and tribal governments to improve reentry and reduce recidivism by expanding and/or increasing access to housing for people who are currently or formerly involved in the criminal justice system. The Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs Bureau of Justice Assistance is the federal agency issuing this grant. Key objectives include assessing reentry systems, identifying strengths and gaps, and building capacity for improved housing options for adults released from prison or jail. The application deadline is March 4, 2025.

Recent grant awards under the Second Chance Act Reentry Initiative, which this opportunity falls under, have typically ranged from $500,000 to $1.5 million over 2-4 year periods. Places of performance may span correctional facilities, community-based organizations, and service areas across the United States where formerly incarcerated individuals are returning.

Synopsis

This funding opportunity seeks to support state, local, and tribal governments to improve reentry and reduce recidivism by expanding and/or increasing access to housing for people who are currently or formerly involved in the criminal justice system. Prior to release from incarceration, people will be screened, assessed, and identified for program participation. The program will help jurisdictions assess their reentry systems, identify strengths and gaps, and then build capacity for improved housing options for adults released from prison or jail. Please see the Eligible Applicants section for the eligibility criteria.
