About this opportunity

The Bureau of Justice Assistance is seeking applications for its Second Chance Act Community-based Reentry Program to provide comprehensive reentry services through community-based non-profits and tribal governments. Applicants must screen and assess incarcerated individuals for program participation prior to release and provide intensive case management and evidence-based programming following release to assist with a safe and seamless transition. Evaluation will consider the thoroughness of the continuum of reentry services and the evidence-based practices utilized to reduce recidivism. Applications are due by April 29, 2024.

Funding is available through the Second Chance Act Reentry Initiative grant program assigned to this opportunity under CFDA 16.812. Successful applicants will use the awards to enhance reentry programming in their communities, focusing on the nearly 2.2 million individuals leaving federal and state prisons each year to reduce recidivism rates. Performance of the funded work will occur where the recipient organizations and tribal governments provide direct reentry services to formerly incarcerated individuals as they transition back into society.

Synopsis

The Second Chance Act (SCA) Community-based Reentry Program supports organizations and tribal governments providing comprehensive reentry services to individuals who have been incarcerated. With this solicitation, BJA seeks applications for funding from community-based non-profit organizations and federally recognized tribal governments to enhance or implement evidence-based responses to improve reentry, reduce recidivism, and support successful transitional planning for individuals who are currently, or were formerly, involved in the criminal justice system. Prior to their release from incarceration, individuals will be screened, assessed, and identified for program participation. Following release from incarceration, participants will receive intensive case management services and they will be connected to evidence-based programming designed to assist with a safe and seamless transition to their communities.
