About this opportunity
The Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) is seeking applications for the BJA FY24 Medicaid and Corrections Training and Technical Assistance Program. This grant opportunity aims to fund an organization to deliver training and technical assistance (TTA) to correctional institutions to improve justice and health outcomes for individuals reentering their communities from incarceration. The TTA will focus on leveraging financing mechanisms, including new and existing Medicaid and CHIP opportunities. Eligible applicants include non-501(c)(3) nonprofits, higher education institutions (private and public), for-profit organizations, small businesses, and 501(c)(3) nonprofits. The grant is funded under the Second Chance Act Reentry Initiative and the application deadline is September 9, 2024.
This grant opportunity has an unspecified award amount, but recent awards under the Second Chance Act Reentry Initiative have typically ranged from $500,000 to $1.5 million over 2-4 year periods. The place of performance is expected to span correctional facilities, community-based organizations, and service areas across the United States where formerly incarcerated individuals are returning.
Synopsis
The Second Chance Act (SCA) of 2007 (Public Law 110- 199), reauthorized by the First Step Act of 2018, provides a comprehensive response to assist in the transition individuals make from adult confinement facilities (e.g., jails, prisons, detention centers) to their communities so that the transition is successful and promotes public safety. With this solicitation, BJA seeks to fund up to one award to deliver training and technical assistance (TTA) to correctional institutions to improve justice and health outcomes for reentering individuals by leveraging financing mechanisms, including new and existing Medicaid and CHIP opportunities.
