The Department of Agriculture National Institute of Food and Agriculture is offering the Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development Program grant to support new and established local and regional training, education, outreach, and technical assistance initiatives for beginning farmers and ranchers. Eligible applicants include collaborations between state and local government agencies, nongovernmental organizations, community organizations, universities, and private for-profit entities. Applications will be evaluated based on criteria such as partnerships, needs assessment, technical merit, expertise, and evaluation plans. The application deadline is April 4, 2024.

The grant will provide approximately $24 million in funding in fiscal year 2024. Funding will be available through standard grants of up to $750,000 over three years or simplified grants of up to $50,000 over one year. The grant is designed to help beginning farmers and ranchers enter and improve in farming, ranching, and forest management through projects addressing topics such as basic agricultural practices, land transfer strategies, business training, and natural resource management.
