About this opportunity

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is announcing the availability of up to $500,000 in Conservation Innovation Grants (CIG) for fiscal year 2024 to fund innovative conservation projects in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Eligible applicants include non-federal public and private entities based in the Caribbean region. Projects must address at least one of six priority areas, including water quality, water harvesting, climate-smart agriculture, conservation in urban agricultural systems, invasive species control, or innovative local-scale waste management. Applications will be evaluated based on the project's purpose, innovative approach, management plan, and potential benefits and transferability. The application deadline is May 15, 2024, and the agency anticipates making selections by June 30, 2024 and executing awards by July 30, 2024.

Individual awards may range from $25,000 to $100,000 for projects lasting one to three years. The funding is authorized under the Environmental Quality Incentives Program, which promotes agricultural production, forest management, and environmental quality through voluntary practices on agricultural lands.
