About this opportunity

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), under the Department of Health and Human Services, is seeking grant applications for health services research projects that demonstrate and disseminate evidence-based solutions aligned with AHRQ research priorities, including improving healthcare quality and patient safety, enhancing healthcare delivery and practice improvement, and advancing whole-person healthcare delivery across all settings. Eligible applicants include federal, state, and local governments; federally-recognized tribal entities; institutions of higher education; nonprofits; small businesses; and for-profit organizations. Applications will be evaluated based on scientific and technical merit, including the qualifications of principal investigators and staff, appropriateness of methodology, and alignment with AHRQ program priorities. Peer review groups will assess proposals, and funded projects will be selected based on merit, program relevance, and available funding. The application deadline is March 25, 2026, with rolling deadlines available through the extended opportunity window.

Award values typically range from $300,000 to $1,200,000 annually, with some larger cooperative agreements reaching up to $4,000,000 over multi-year periods. Projects may be approved for durations of up to five years, depending on funding availability and the specific grant program requirements. Research may be conducted across diverse healthcare settings nationwide, including hospitals, long-term care facilities, ambulatory care practices, home healthcare, pharmacies, and care transition environments, and may involve partnerships with patients, clinicians, policymakers, healthcare organizations, and government entities.
