About this opportunity
This federal grant opportunity from the Department of State's Bureau of International Narcotics Law Enforcement (INL) seeks a partner to implement institutional reforms in Armenia's criminal justice system. The purpose is to build public confidence through tangible changes, such as increasing access to justice, strengthening legal defense mechanisms, providing training for criminal justice officers, and upholding the rights of vulnerable individuals. INL is looking for a collaborative, creative, and data-driven approach that can deliver results and ensure effective on-the-ground implementation. Key objectives include establishing electronic communications platforms in prisons, improving the skills of probation officers and judges, and providing "train the trainer" programs for judges, prosecutors, and investigators. The application deadline is July 23, 2024.
The total funding available for this 24-30 month cooperative agreement is $2.5 million, with a single award anticipated. Eligible applicants include U.S. and foreign non-profit/non-governmental organizations and educational institutions. While the place of performance is primarily in Armenia, the project is expected to have a broader regional impact in strengthening the rule of law and criminal justice systems.
