Application must be submitted by the institution where the candidate will conduct postdoctoral research.
Awards support up to three years of mentored research and training. The maximum salary contribution is $80,000 per year plus fringe benefits, with $30,000 annually available for research development costs. Indirect costs are reimbursed at 8 percent of modified total direct costs. Candidates must commit a minimum of 75 percent effort to the award and identify a primary mentor with successful mentoring experience.
Preliminary data are not required. The program emphasizes innovative research ideas and comprehensive mentoring plans. Research must be relevant to the missions of the participating institutes and centers across biomedical, behavioral, and clinical sciences.
